What Halvies keeps about you, who sees it, and how to have it deleted.
What Halvies keeps
Your name, email address and profile photo, if you add one.
What you and your groups add: groups, people, expenses, settle-ups, notes, receipts and screenshots, and a record of every change, so balances can always be checked.
Your PayID or bank details, only if you enter them in How to pay me.
Who sees it
People in a group see that group's expenses, receipts and names. Nobody outside the group does.
Your How to pay me details are shown only to people who share a group with you, when they are paying you.
We don't sell or share it
Your information is never sold, rented or given to advertisers. There are no ads. The only cookies are the ones that keep you signed in.
Services that run Halvies
These store or handle your information only to make Halvies work: Clerk (sign-in, your name and email), Amazon Web Services in Sydney (the database, receipts and screenshots, and sending emails) Cloudflare (every page passes through it), and Expo in the United States, which passes push notifications to Apple or Google (the words of each notification and a code for your phone).
To see which parts of Halvies get used, the pages you open, the buttons you press and the kind of thing you add (an expense or a settle-up, how it was split, whether it has a receipt) are counted with PostHog, in the United States. It gets your first name and an account number, never your email address, amounts, titles or notes, and it doesn't record your screen.
If the app crashes, a crash report goes to Sentry, in the European Union: the device model, the iOS version, the app version and the error. It doesn't include your name, email address, amounts, titles or notes.
When you choose to read a screenshot, the image goes to Anthropic's Claude to fill in the expense. Anthropic doesn't use it to train its models. Searching for a group cover sends only the words you typed to Unsplash.
Notifications
Halvies emails you when someone settles up with you, and a daily summary when something changed. On a phone with the app, it can also send push notifications, once you allow them. Turn any of them off in Notifications in the account menu; each email also has a link at the bottom to stop that kind.
Deleting your information
To delete your account, choose Delete account in the account menu, on the web or in the app. Your email, photo and payment details are removed and you can't sign in again. Expenses you share with other people stay in their groups, under your name, so their balances still add up. Groups where nobody else has an account are deleted. Nightly backups are kept for 28 days, then deleted.
